Letters of complaint

Hi, people
Here you have examples of letters of complaint:

Dear Mr Black,
Following our telephone conversation earlier today, I am writing to give details of my dissatisfaction with my stay at the New Hotel, Los Christianos, Tenerife, on 10– 18 August 2010, which I booked with your company for me and my family.
My central complaint is that the hotel fell far short of the description in the brochure. We had booked two double suites, in rooms 213 and 214. Although the rooms were billed as four-star accommodation, they were very cramped, and the furnishings were worn and dirty. In addition, the shower in room 213 did not work. The hotel’s grounds, described in the brochure as “pleasant, tranquil, and spacious,” were in fact bordered on two sides by a very busy main road. The swimming pool was closed the entire week for repairs.
When we spoke to your representative, Tracey Mills, she promised to try to get the shower fixed, but this took an unacceptably long time to happen—three days from when we first complained. I asked her to fill out an accommodation report form detailing these issues and I enclose a copy for your information, together with photos of the bedrooms and the hotel grounds.
As I stated in my telephone call, I feel that we are due a full refund for this hotel stay as it failed to meet the description in the brochure, and it ruined our holiday. I look forward to hearing from you within the next two weeks.

                       Sincerely yours,
                                                    Maria Johnson

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing today to complain of the poor service I received from your company on June 12, 2016. I was visited by a representative of That Awful Company, Mr. Madman, at my home on that day.
Mr. Madman was one hour late for his appointment and offered nothing by way of apology when he arrived at noon. Your representative did not remove his muddy shoes upon entering my house, and consequently left a trail of dirt in the hallway. Mr. Madman then proceeded to present a range of products to me that I had specifically told his assistant by telephone I was not interested in. I repeatedly tried to ask your representative about the products that were of interest to me, but he refused to deal with my questions. We ended our meeting after 25 minutes without either of us having accomplished anything.
I am most annoyed that I wasted a morning (and half a day's vacation) waiting for Mr. Madman to show up. My impression of That Awful Company has been tarnished, and I am now concerned about how my existing business is being managed by your firm. Furthermore, Mr. Madman's inability to remove his muddy shoes has meant that I have had to engage the services, and incur the expense, of a professional carpet cleaner.
I trust this is not the way That Awful Company wishes to conduct business with valued customers—I have been with you since the company was founded and have never encountered such treatment before. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss matters further and to learn of how you propose to prevent a similar situation from recurring. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,

V. Angry

Dear Mr. Smith,

I am writing this letter to you to bring to your attention a problem I have had with a cellphone I purchased from one of your retailers. Allow me to elaborate.

Yesterday, I purchased a cellphone (model number: xxxx) made by your company from one of your retailers. I know it is one of your best selling products and that is exactly what prompted me to buy it. Unfortunately, it looks like the unit I purchased is defective. The call quality is pretty low: I can hardly understand anything. I am impressed with the quality of the camera and other features. But the main purpose of a phone is to make calls and this one doesn’t seem good for that.

This is not the first time I have purchased phones built by your company, but this is the first time I have experienced a problem. I am hoping that you will take measures necessary to replace this fault unit with a good one. I can provide you with the receipt, if needed.

Expecting a prompt response,

Sincerely
Peter Parker

What will the test be like?

So, as we said today...
the test will be divided in two
In the first part, you will have a box with words. You will have to select some words (THE ONES YOU KNOW!) and write examples or definitions. Example:
1) Choose 5 words and write sentences to explain their meaning. You can write definitions or examples.

Bake – sausages – takeaway – spicy – toppings – mash - rosemary

a) Sausages are a meal made of ground meat. The meat is generally beef or pork. They are boiled or grilled. You can eat them in a hot dog too.
b) Mash is a dish that you make with boiled, mashed potatoes. Some people add milk and butter to the recipe.

You will also have a matching exercise where you will have words and you will have to match them with their definitions.

In the second part, you will have some questions related to Argentinian, Spanish or German gastronomy. You will have to choose some and answer them. Example.

1) Why do we eat so much beef in Argentina?
2) Mention characteristics of German food.
3) Mention a typical Spanish dish and what ingredients it has.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me: melisape@gmail.com

Study from the photocopies, the videos and your folder and you will do fine!

Hi, people.
These are the topics for the test:
Vocabulary on food:
1) the vocabulary from the first video ("Choripán" video)
2) the vocabulary from the second video ("shepherd's pie")
2) the vocabulary from the photocopies I gave you

Gastronomy from the world
1) Argentinian gastronomy (we read about it on a photocopy)
2) the classes you heard from your classmates (So far we have only heard Spain. Tomorrow we will hear one or two more, if we are lucky).

Basically, it will be a short test on vocabulary, so that's what you should study

See you tomorrow.
